Meet Our team of Doctors
Dr. Lauren Downey
Dr. Lauren Downey is a southern California native and graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She then spent two years as a research coordinator for Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA before deciding she wanted to pursue optometry.
Dr. Downey earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from New England College of Optometry and then completed a residency in cornea and contact lenses at the Specialty Eye Group in Seattle. This residency gave Dr. Downey a special skill set for treating nearsightedness known as myopia control. We are excited to bring myopia control into our practice to better serve our pediatric population. In her down time, Dr. Downey loves reading, cooking, snowboarding, hiking, and being around any body of water. Reno is the perfect place for her to call home! |
Dr. Kristen gaus
After attending Galena High School, Dr. Gaus graduated magna cum laude from the University of Nevada, Reno with a B.S. in Biochemistry. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree in conjunction with a Masters of Education in Visual Function and Learning in 2011 from Pacific University in Oregon. Dr. Gaus then chose to extend her eye care training by completing a residency in primary care and ocular disease at the Veterans Affairs Sierra Nevada Hospital in Reno. During that time, she also earned her fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry. Upon completing her residency, Dr. Gaus worked in private practice optometry in central Oregon for nine years before she returned to Reno and joined the practice.
Dr. Gaus enjoys all aspects of optometry including contact lenses, pediatrics, and the treatment of dry eyes and ocular disease. |
In her free time, Dr Gaus likes spending time with her family, as well as various outdoor activities including hiking and kayaking, running, and even a little ballroom dancing! She and her husband, along with their three dogs, love exploring Nevada together.
Dr. John H. Sutton
Dr. John H. Sutton has retired from patient care at Nevada Vision Group. He continues to serve patients at the Rural Health Clinic in Ely, NV.
Dr. Sutton graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1970 and continued his studies at Pacific University in 1974 to obtain his doctorate. After serving four years in the Army Medical Corp, he opened his private practice in 1978. Dr. Sutton is a very proud parent to his three daughters and grandparent to his five grandkids. |
Dr. L. Glenn Hum
Dr. James V.A. Conkey
Dr. James Conkey has been practicing 31 of his 33 years in the Reno/Sparks area. He is a graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry. Dr. Conkey is a past president of the Nevada Optometric Association. He is an active member of the community as well, and is a longtime member of the Reno Kiwanis Club and past member of the Sparks YMCA board of directors. He is a graduate of Leadership Reno/Sparks Program and active with the Reno/Sparks Chamber of Commerce.
In addition, Dr. Conkey serves on the advisory board of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno. |
Dr. Summer L. Foster
A native of Sparks, Nevada, Dr. Summer Foster attended Pacific University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology and minored in music. She then earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry. After optometry school, Dr. Foster continued her education with a residency in primary care and ocular disease at the Veterans Affairs Sierra Nevada Hospital in Reno, Nevada. She is board certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease and enjoys all aspects of optometry, including pediatrics, ocular disease, low vision. Her passion within optometry is fitting custom contact lenses.
When not practicing optometry, Dr. Foster enjoys swimming, hiking, billiards, watching movies and spending time with her family. Dr. Foster is married to Dr. Umari Duffus and has two daughters. |
Dr. Margaret D. Raulino
Dr. Margaret Raulino has been in practice for over 28 years. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree with honors from the University of California at Berkeley, School of Optometry. She received her Biological Sciences degree with highest honors from California State University Fullerton. She is board certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease and earned an additional certification in the treatment of glaucoma. She enjoys all aspects of optometry, including pediatrics, treatment of ocular disease, glaucoma, and dry eye, as well as contact lenses. As an active member of her profession, she has served on the Optometric Association Membership Committee and in her local society as Secretary/Treasurer.
During her free time, she enjoys traveling, cross-country skiing, biking, and spending time with her family. She has been married for over 28 years to Dr. James Raulino and they are proud parents of two daughters. |
Dr. Maria A. Stanley
Dr. Maria A. Stanley, a native Nevadan, received her undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry from Carroll College. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1994. She completed an optometric residency in Co-Management of Medical & Surgical Eyecare at Eye Care Associates of Nevada in Reno, Nevada. She is a published author in the Journal of the American Optometric Association.
Dr. Stanley is board certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease and enjoys all aspects of optometry with specific interest in specialty eyewear, contact lenses, dry eye treatment, and ocular nutrition. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, Northern Nevada Optometric Association, and involved in Sight for Students. Dr. Stanley enjoys working with patients of all ages. |
When not in the office, Dr. Stanley enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter. Together, they enjoy hiking, snow shoeing, canoeing, and exploring Nevada.
Dr. Deborah J. Ward
Dr. Deborah J. Ward attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for her undergraduate education and graduated from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1992. She has worked extensively with local ophthalmologists for the past 19 years of practice in Reno, NV. She has a broad skill base in comanaging refractive as well as medical surgeries including LASIK, PRK, iLASIK, Visian ICL, cataract and eyelid surgeries. Dr. Ward appreciates the needs of contact lens wearers and enjoys working with her patients to achieve the best vision possible. She likes working with patients of all ages and ocular needs.
Dr. Ward is a member of the American Optometric Association, Northern Nevada Optometric Optometric Society and volunteers for local educational programs when not spending time with her husband and four children. |
Dr. Paul D. Wilson
Born and raised in southern California, Dr. Paul D. Wilson received degrees in Psychobiology from UCLA and in Vision Science from UC Berkeley. Dr. Wilson attended the prestigious UC Berkeley School of Optometry, graduating with honors in 1993. A founder of Nevada Vision Group, he has practiced in Reno for 29 years. He is board certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease. Dr. Wilson is a past president of the Northern Nevada Optometric Society and has worked as a consultant in the eye care field.
Dr. Wilson lives in Reno with his wife of 30 years, Susan, and their two children. When he is not in the office, Dr. Wilson enjoys spending time with his family. |
